The upgrade pity system that was introduced with the 2.6.0 gear rework, reduces the extreme variance of upgrading luck. This means that players have a higher chance of obtaining the desired evolution item when spinning a Pokestop or Gym.

Upgrade components can be slotted into these items to give an attribute bonus along with other effects when the equipment is being used.
Upgrades that are slotted into can be replaced, but they cannot be removed unless the item is destroyed or salvaged using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or higher-end item recovery tools. Glyphs that are placed in gathering tools can be easily removed and replaced.
A player may buy up to six upgrade components at one time by recycling other equipment. Recycled items will add a certain number of levels to the gauge for upgrading an item and will increase depending on the equipment is more valuable.
